THE BAND
Over seven years ago, students at the Royal Northern College of Music combined their
love of soul music, rock classics, modern hits and - ultimately - performing at live events,
to create the Big Phat Phunction Band. Originating as a 12-member band, the ensemble
included a full four-piece horn section, percussion and backing singers. We started
performing Motown, Soul and various party classics across Manchester and have never
looked back since!
Since then, things have only got bigger and better, and we are proud to be one of the
leading function bands around today. Our repertoire has greatly expanded to include rock,
pop, jazz, and just about everything else in between. As well as playing around all of
Manchester and most of the North-West, we have performed at numerous events across
the country, including headline gigs, festivals, corporate events, weddings, birthdays and
much much more.
Our classic 5 piece line-up includes a singer, guitarists, bassists, keyboardist and
drummer. Though our larger packages are definitely recommended so you can experience
that classic Big Phat sound!
With a repertoire of over 300 songs and promise the perfect setlist for every occasion. We
work closely with clients to create a tailor-made setlist that is perfect for your event. As well
as this, we are also happy to learn any special song requests you should have. We
understand that every event is unique and, as professionals, we ensure that we take time
to understand the client’s vision perfectly, and tailor our performances to suit every
occasion.
As well as our varied ensemble options for your main event, we can also provide a soloist
for your walk down the aisle, can perform as a jazz ensemble for any afternoon
corporate/reception event, can offer DJ services before/after the performance, and can
provide a line-up in just about any form you can think of, creating a guaranteed perfect
event.
We provide all our own equipment, are willing to travel, and are fully insured. We are also
willing to tailor song choices and will learn any first dance request/favourite song. For more

What is your unique selling point?
We have a repertoire of over 300 songs covering genres including rock, soul, pop and much more. We are professional multi-instrumentalists, and can adapt our line-up for any occasion. Whatever you want - we can provide it! Available to book from 5 to12 musicians (including male/female vocals, 1-4 horns, backing vocals, percussion and just about every other instrument).
What are the highlights of your career?
Every event we play is extremely special to us, but in terms of prestige, supporting jazz legend Courtney Pine at the Royal Northern College of Music was an incredible occasion for all involved.
Do you do song requests?
Absolutely! We are happy to learn songs at your request and can even arrange horn charts for them.
Do we have to pay for the event up front?
No - we usually take a small deposit at the time of booking, then ask for the rest of the money to be transferred within a few days following the event. We offer a range of payment options and invoices are provided.
How long do you play for?
However long you want us to! Standard sets are 2X45 minutes or 3X45 minutes, but we are more than happy to play for longer.
Do you have Public Liability Insurance and PAT tested equipment?
All our equipment is all PAT tested and we have PLI through the Musician’s Union.
Can you provide a DJ service and any other musical services?
Definitely! We can provide a DJ service before/after/in-between our sets, and can also provide solo piano, a jazz ensemble, or just about anything else throughout the day.
Are you happy to travel?
Yes - we have travelled all over the UK for gigs and make sure to provide clients with estimated travel costs before each event.
